Case 09 · Life! Agency (fmr. Life, Longari & Loman) · 2013 — 2015

Web design and art direction from the Italian studio years

Two years inside a Bologna studio producing visual web work and art direction for a roster of Italian and international clients — food heritage brands, restaurant chains, a dyslexia charity, and a gaming ecommerce platform. The period that built the craft foundations before product UX took over.

Context

Life, Longari & Loman — later rebranded as Life! — was a Bologna-based digital studio where I worked as Art Director from 2013 to 2015. The agency ran a roster of Italian food-heritage brands, hospitality groups, a dyslexia charity, and a handful of international clients, all produced under a proprietary CMS (L3) built in-house.

The work was primarily visual web and digital art direction: responsive sites, ecommerce builds, brand identities, and email — across food, restaurant, charity, and retail verticals. It was formative work — high output, high variety, and the kind of studio pace that builds craft quickly.

Role

Art Director across all client work. Responsible for visual design, layout systems, and brand expression in digital surfaces. I also led both redesigns of the agency's own website: first as LLL, then again after the rebrand to Life!.

What the period produced

Fourteen-plus projects across two years: artisan gelato ingredient brands (MEC3, Giuso), coffee roasters (Essse Caffè), a chocolate heritage house (Pernigotti), an American steakhouse chain (Roadhouse), a plant-based food brand (Sojasun), an Italian flour mill (Molino Spadoni), a capsule coffee ecommerce and companion app (Caffitaly), a Mexican restaurant (Calavera), a gaming ecommerce platform (xtralife), and the AID dyslexia charity.

The L3 project sits alongside the client work as its own case — the proprietary CMS that powered the entire roster, where I led the UI design for the editorial and ecommerce tooling used by every client site in the agency.
